General Technology Information

New classroom technology

Several classrooms have new technology. This will be evidenced by one or more of the following:

  • New camera mounted in the ceiling at the back of the room
  • Second monitor identified as having a very narrow bezel (touchscreen that can be used as a mouse or drawing tool)
  • Two ball shaped microphones hanging from the ceiling

PowerPoint - Dual monitors

In rooms with two monitors, you must select the correct monitor for the slide show so that it appears on the projector. Before starting your Slide Show go to the Slide Show tab. Then select the "Primary Monitor" from the drop down menu in the Monitor group.

Zoom - Account types

  • Basic: Among other limitations, the basic account only allows meetings to be 40 minutes
  • Licensed: Allows up to 300 participants, meeting duration up to 24 hours, recordings can be stored in the cloud
  • Webinar: Allows up to 10,000 participants, includes polls

Students only need a basic account. To request a licensed account for Zoom, fill out the Requesting a license form at the bottom of that page. If you need a Webinar account, contact Alan Roland.

You can check your current account type by clicking the profile button in the upper right corner of the Zoom application.

Recording - Local vs cloud

Zoom sessions can be recorded and saved to the local computer or in the cloud. Local recording is not recommended especially in classrooms where data is not saved between logins. The time needed to process usually exceeds the time between classes. Cloud recordings are processed in the cloud. This means as soon as you end the Zoom session it will start processing so you can log out of the computer. You will receive an email once processing is complete. Allow 2 times the length of the session for processing to complete (e.g. a 50 minute class can take up to 1 hour, 40 minutes to process).
